Air Force Institute of Technology - Case Study

The completion of the Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) system in 2021 has significantly enhanced NATO’s real-time strategic intelligence capabilities. This system, featuring five Global Hawk remotely piloted aircraft based in Sigonella, Italy, enables NATO to monitor events such as unusual troop movements, unknown watercraft approaching coastlines, and natural disasters triggering humanitarian assistance or disaster relief efforts. The AGS system, representing a multinational and multiyear research and development effort with an investment exceeding EUR 2 billion, functions as “eyes in the skies” that can track moving objects on the ground and transmit actionable information swiftly to NATO intelligence analysts, military commanders, and political leaders.

The Institute overseeing the project opted to migrate from its existing DOORS platform to IBM DOORS Next, leveraging the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Family of software tools. IBM DOORS Next served as the foundation for the project, with additional integration of IBM tools such as IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management, IBM Engineering Test Management, and IBM Workflow Management, as recommended by SmarterProcess. This comprehensive approach allowed NATO to streamline its project documentation, enhance testing processes, and ensure seamless interoperability between operational and simulated components.

About Air Force Institute of Technology

Established in 1953 and based in Warsaw, the Air Force Institute of Technology (link resides outside of ibm.com) is a research institute supervised by the Polish Minister of National Defense. The Institute operates research and development divisions for aircraft system design and integration, unmanned aerial vehicles, aerial armament, aircraft engines, avionics, logistics, reliability and safety, C4ISR systems integration, airfield infrastructure and substitutes for fuels, oils and lubricants.

IBM Engineering (IBM Jazz) - How to install ?

Many clients evaluate products prior to implementation or purchase to compare features and see if the product meets the organization’s needs. IBM Engineering (IBM Jazz) is no different, and in fact, this is a recommended process that we always support as an IBM partner.

We always recommend that our clients use the jazz.net portal where they can create an environment in which they can carry out the evaluation process. There are cases where the customer needs an installation on their own infrastructure, and very often they want to do this themselves.

In response to these needs, we have created videos showing how to install IBM Engineering version 7.x for product evaluation.

Important: The following instructions do not document how to perform a production installation.

IBM ELM extensions malfunction after latest iFix? (CRJAZ5037E SSRF)

After implementing the most recent iFix, following best practices for your IBM ELM environment, have you encountered an issue where your widgets are no longer functioning, and you are unable to identify the root cause of the problem?

Problem of CRJAZ5037E SSRF:

The introduction of new iFixes, starting with versions ELM 7.0.2 iFix004, ELM 7.0.1 iFix009, CLM 6.0.6.1 iFix018, and CLM 6.0.6 iFix022, underscores IBM’s commitment to bolstering security. This initiative addresses Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerabilities.

Consequently, due to these implemented security measures, there are notable changes in the behavior of all OpenSocial gadgets and RSS feeds that fetch content from external sources. This adjustment becomes apparent through errors encountered while attempting to integrate widgets into your side-panel or dashboard, particularly those that previously operated seamlessly.

Solution for CRJAZ5037E SSRF:

To effectively address this issue and reinstate the functionality of your widgets, it is imperative to incorporate the URLs of your extension hosting servers into the jazz “allowlist.” Access the allowlist via the JTS application (https://yourServer/jts/admin) in the Admin menu. Proceed to “Advanced properties,” where you can locate the “allowlist.” Within this section, diligently input all URLs linked to your hosting servers, ensuring they are separated by commas and devoid of spaces. As an alternative, consider utilizing an asterisk “*” to grant permission for all traffic, a practical approach if deemed appropriate.

Subsequent to the mentioned step, it is crucial to include the requisite URLs in the whitelist of the CLM/ELM application you are integrating your widgets with. For example, if your aim is to integrate widgets into RM applications, navigate to https://yourServer/rm/admin. In the side-menu, specifically find and select “Whitelist,” then proceed to systematically incorporate the necessary URLs into this designated section.
